Born
August 18, in Lewisburg, Pennsylvania
- With a sister only 13 months older, Mary Jo had her hands full with two
babies.
- Graduated from Corvallis High School, 1972
- In second grade Barney skipped a grade so he and his sister, Bekki, have
been in the same grade since.
- Colleges
- He started at Grinnell, Iowa where they had the best steak and sundae meals,
then spent a year at Wasada University becoming fluent in Japanese. Upon returning
he attended and graduated from Carlton College.
- Labo
- He began work for Labo in 1982. He loved working with and organizing thousands
of Japanese and North American youth to give each one a pleasant and rewarding
visit to a new country.
- Dialysis
- Barney began dialyzing in 1989 after a slow and total loss of kidney function.
He dialyzed for 14 years. He was on a waiting list for a transplant for years
and when the call came Jan 2003, he was ready for a change. A new life without
dialysis outweighed the risks from the surgery that he was willing to take.
Unfortunately, those risks were greater than his body could cope with.
